On to the recipes!
Garlic Lover Boere’ Roll
Ingredients
- steers garlic sauce
- bread rolls
- 500g boerewors
- 1 red onion
- tsp minced garlic
- olive oil
- sugar (optional)
- baby spinach (can be replaced with rocket)
- marina braai salt (any type)
Method
- Begin by toasting your bread rolls. boeries just taste better on toasted rolls. you can use a pan or the toaster.
- Start with the red onion relish. you want to get them nice and caramelised, so over a medium heat, add your olive oil and then when hot, add your onions. After you have sweated your onions for a bit, add your garlic. You can turn the heat low now and cook the onions until caramelised (season to taste) – which can take a little while. If you don’t want to wait too long, add some sugar and the process will be quicker.
- Take your relish off and put to one side to cool. Turn up the heat in the same pan to medium / hot and when ready, add your boerewors. You can season the boerewors with salt and pepper beforehand. Wait until the boerewors is done and let it rest for 5 minutes.
For assembly, on your toasted roll, add your baby spinach, spread the steers garlic sauce liberally and add your boerewors on top. finish off with your red onion relish and enjoy!
